Terms of Service
Last updated: 17 April 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of MeterPal, a prepaid electricity meter monitoring platform operated by MeterPal Technologies ("we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account or using MeterPal, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Service Description
MeterPal is a self-service tool that allows you to monitor your Nigerian prepaid electricity meters. The platform enables you to:
- Register and track multiple prepaid meters.
- Manually log electricity unit readings and recharges.
- Receive predictions on when your units may run out based on historical consumption data.
- Receive low-balance alerts and depletion warnings via in-app and push notifications.
- Export your data in a portable format.
MeterPal does not purchase electricity, process payments, or interface directly with distribution companies (DisCos) or metering infrastructure. All data in MeterPal is user-reported.
2. Account Registration
- You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account.
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
- You must be at least 18 years old to use MeterPal.
- One person may maintain only one account. Duplicate accounts may be suspended or terminated.
3. User Responsibilities
When using MeterPal, you agree to:
- Provide accurate meter readings and recharge information.
- Use the platform only for lawful purposes related to monitoring your own prepaid electricity meters.
- Not attempt to access other users' accounts or data.
- Not interfere with the platform's operation, security, or infrastructure.
- Keep your account credentials secure and notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
4. Acceptable Use
You must not:
- Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access MeterPal without prior written permission.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the platform.
- Upload malicious content or attempt to exploit vulnerabilities.
- Use the platform to harass, abuse, or harm others.
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity.
5. Predictions and Alerts
MeterPal provides consumption predictions and depletion estimates based on your self-reported usage data. These predictions are estimates only and may not reflect actual meter behaviour. We do not guarantee the accuracy of predictions.
Alerts (low-balance notifications, depletion warnings) are sent on a best-effort basis. Delivery depends on push notification permissions, device connectivity, and third-party notification services. We are not liable for missed or delayed alerts.
6. Intellectual Property
All content, design, code, trademarks, and logos associated with MeterPal are owned by MeterPal Technologies or its licensors. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the platform without our prior written consent.
You retain ownership of the data you input into MeterPal (meter readings, recharge logs, etc.). By using the platform, you grant us a limited licence to process this data solely to provide the MeterPal service.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Nigerian law:
- MeterPal is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of MeterPal.
- We are not liable for power outages, electricity disconnections, or financial losses resulting from reliance on MeterPal predictions or alerts.
- Our total liability for any claim related to the service shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim (if any).
8. Account Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that we reasonably believe is harmful to the platform, other users, or our interests. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before or promptly after such action.
You may delete your account at any time through the Settings page. Upon deletion, your data will be handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
9. Modifications to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification or email at least 14 days before they take effect. Your continued use of MeterPal after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and other applicable regulations.
11. Dispute Resolution
Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of MeterPal shall first be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be submitted to mediation under the rules of the Lagos Multi-Door Courthouse (LMDC) or, at your option, the courts of competent jurisdiction in Lagos, Nigeria.
